How do i teach my child to wear Baby Banz?

extracted from usa.babybanz.com

Wearing sunglasses, just like wearing sunscreen or fastening a seat belt, is a learned phenomenon. Kids learn fast, but if you don't teach them to wear sunglasses, they will never learn. Here are some of our suggestions on how you can get your child to love wearing Baby Banz.
1) When you first put Baby Banz on your child they should be in the sun - not indoors.

2) Make sure the polycarbonate lenses on the sunglasses are clean. If not, clean them with a lens cleaner and soft cloth. If you don't have lens cleaner, soap and water will do. Just don't dry them with an abrasive paper towel.

3) Center the sunglasses so the nose piece rests on the tiny bridge of the nose and the straps above the ears. Adjust the neoprene strap to be just tight enough so that they don't slip down, but not tighter. If they are too snug they will not want to wear them.

4) It is normal, especially for infants, to try to pull the glasses off at first. But the more you put them back on and encourage them to wear them, the easier it gets. Start your child as young as possible. Remember that wearing sunglasses for 5 minutes the first time is wonderful. It's a new experience so build the time up gradually.

What should i look for in sunglasses?

Extracted from BabyBanz.blogspot.com

What do I need to know about sunglasses?

The most important things to look for when choosing a pair of sunglasses is the amount of UV light that is blocked by the sunglasses and a proper fit. Lenses should be large enough to shield your eyes from most angles. It is important to note that darker lenses in sunglasses do not necessarily offer better UV protection. Sunglasses have many features, not all of which are related to the amount of sun protection they provide:

•Blocks 99% of UV light:
This is a very important thing to look for when purchasing sunglasses. This claim tells you that the sunglasses block 99 percent of harmful UV rays. The tag may also say "UV absorption up to 400 nm".

•Wrap-around:
This is another important thing to look for when purchasing sunglasses. These types of sunglasses wrap around the face and protect eyes from all angles.

•Polycarbonate lenses:
This type of lens is the most impact-resistant lens on the market today. (This type of lens does not necessarily offer better UV protection than other types of lenses.)

•Blocks 90 percent of infrared rays:
The amount of infrared rays sunglasses block does not effect the UV protectiveness of sunglasses. (Infrared rays are not harmful to eyes.)

•Polarized:
This type of lens does not help protect your eyes from damaging UV rays. However, this type of lens can improve eyesight by reducing distracting surface glare, most notably from water and snow

Your Child Needs Eye Protection

Parenthots
6 Sept 2010

By BRIGITTE ROZARIO

Too much sun is not a good thing. While adults are used to wearing sunglasses and eye protection, children aren't. There is a tendency to think that children don't need eye protection because sunglasses are still viewed as a fashion accessory and a luxury item.

The truth is children need protective eyewear to shield their eyes from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) light. And, if sunglasses are too expensive, then a cap will do.

The sun's UV light is just too intense and although we do not see the damage now, there is a cumulative effect which will be seen when that individual is in their senior years.

Eye surgeon and paediatric opthalmologist Dr Choong Yee Fong says that while UV light is harmful to everybody, it is more so for children.

Earmuffs

Earmuffs are designed to protect your kids from NIHL (Noise induced hearing loss).

Earmuffs are perfect for taking to your favourite outings like:
• Sporting Events
• Drag Races
• Concerts
• Car Racing
• Air Shows

Earmuffs are also great at home for loud activities like lawn mowing, vacuuming, drilling, farming and Karaoke!!

Q. What ages are the Earmuffs for?

A. Earmuffs can be worn by children of all ages. However, we recommend that they are not used for children less than 6 months old. This is due to the fact that newborns heads are quite soft and the Earmuffs are a reasonably tight fit. PLEASE NOTE: This is a RECOMMENDATION only. We have had customers use our Earmuffs on children less than 6 months with no problems whatsoever. Should you find the ear muffs to be a bit too tight, they can be stretched slightly. Simply place two chairs back to back, and stretch the ear muffs over the two chairs. After leaving the ear muffs for a while, they will have stretched by a small amount, making them a bit less tight when worn.

Sun Safety Matters All Year Long... Baby Banz Inc

Sun Safety is something that we all think about during the summer months, but what about the fall and winter? The sun's damaging rays are around us all year round, and just because it's overcast outside does not mean your children are safe from the same potential UV damage they would receive in full sunlight. Too often the sunscreen and sunglasses get packed away in August leaving kids squinting and exposed during colder weather. Make sun safety a habit year round, your kids will thank you for it when they are older!

Some good year-round sun prevention tips:
  1. Wear a wide-brimmed hat that is large enough to allow for plenty of air flow.
  2. Avoid a lot of activity or stay in the shade during the hottest time of the day (between 10 AM and 2 PM).
  3. Avoid lengthy exposure to the sun.
  4. Apply a sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher anytime kids are in direct sunlight (talk to your pediatrician about using sunscreen on any child younger than 6 months of age).
  5. Wear sunglasses that are UVA/UVB CSA certified and block out 100% of UVA/B rays - like Baby Banz - going skiing or sledding? Try Ski Banz Ski Goggles!
